We were flying out to LA to visit Sabrina's Uncle Brett and Aunt Lisa. Kev has seen Brett and Lisa when he's been out to California for work but it has been a while for Sabrina and me. We saw Brett at Lila's Baptism a month ago, but haven't seen Lisa since last Thanksgiving.
I was pretty stressed out by the whole idea of flying with a toddler. Sabrina is an incredibly easy-going kid, but she HATES to be confined. We brought her car seat on the plane, so at least that would be familiar to her.
In preparation for the trip, we asked anyone we could find who's ever flown with a child for advice. We heard some great ideas. Probably the best was from Kev's friend Heather who suggested a trip to the dollar store for a pill sorter and lots of cheap-o toys. We had a winner!
My mother also noted that when we were little, my sisters and my favorite thing on plane rides was the safety card. I guess it's genetic.
Because she was unfamiliar with the saferty features of our Boeing 757, Sabrina studied up. She takes plane safety very seriously
She also loved the Sky Mall magazine. It's the first time that she's been allowed to crinkle and tear pages with reckless abandon.
We had planned the flight to coincide with Sabrina's afternoon nap and were hoping for her to get a couple of hours of sleep. Alas, she only dozed for about 40 minutes mid-way through the flight. It made for a very tired little girl.
All-in-all, Sabrina held it together pretty well, but we did have a few crying jags. The passengers around us were all pretty supportive (or at least were polite enough to pretend to be). There were a number of small children on board--one of whom was a screacher--so Sabrina was actually pretty tame in comparison.
We planned for--and expected--the worst and were pleasantly surprised. Sabrina's grade for the flight: B+
