My dad's dad (and his dad's dad) worked nearly their entire careers for the B&O Railroad so, needless to say, my dad grew up loving trains. I have childhood memories of visiting the B&O train museums in Baltimore and Ellicott City and marveling at the size of the real trains and the model trains. We were all excited to finally show Sabrina and Stephen.
We decided to go for the bigger museum in Baltimore which has been renovated since I last saw it. The roundhouse houses dozens of historic engines, coaches, and carriages and the train yard includes a model train set-up, a wooden kid-sized train, and some real trains we could wander through.
Once again, the kids lived up to their gender stereotypes. Sabrina had a good time. Stephen had an AMAZINGLY FANTASTIC time. He looked so little next to these gigantic machines and he kept running everywhere, pointing at everything and yelling "TRAIN!" to anyone in earshot. It was hysterical.
The hardest thing about the trip was keeping the kids from climbing into/onto the historic pieces.
Case in point.
Stevie took my dad on a full circle run of the roundhouse.
Stevie! Wait for us!!
The price of pure joy? 25 cents.
Both the indoor and outdoor model train displays were HUGE fan favorites.
Boats and trains in one place?! I didn't think Stevie could get any happier.
Did I mention the play train had a bell? It must be because my ears are still ringing.
Sabrina Rose you better watch your speed...
After presenting their tickets (at Sabrina's request), Grandma and Grandpa get to take a ride.
My dad suggested we come back again at Christmas time to see everything decked out for the holidays. I can't wait to see how much more they'll get out of it then.
